Abstract

A new method which enables us to estimate specific storage and vertical hydraulic conductivity through barometric responses on pore pressure obtained at multiple depths, is developed here. The merits of this method are abilities to estimate both specific storage and vertical hydraulic conductivity at same locality and to estimate them unaffected by barometric attenuation in unsaturated zone, which have been difficult or impossible until now. Furthermore, we developed devices which have multiple intervals to monitor pore pressure in a single borehole, to avoid the same number of boreholes as monitoring depths. We obtained barometric responses on pore pressure using them and applied the new method to them. Conclusively, we showed that it is applicable within practically allowable errors to field.
