Abstract

The objective of this paper to investigate the propagation of Stoneley wave in a fluid filled fracture embedded in a viscoelastic formation. The viscoelastic mechanism models the attenuation due to the presence of fluid saturation. A model based on the superposition of partial plane waves is developed to describe Stoneley wave propagation. The dispersion equation is obtained for this case. Numerical solution is carried out to obtain the Stoneley wave velocity and the attenuation coefficient.

A comparison Study in the absence and presence of attenuation is presented. Finally, a parametric study is carried out to investigate the effect of attenuation.
